"Dogs Can't Read" is a look at dogs and graffiti in four cities around the world. The cities include Palermo, Paris, New York and Tijuana.
The winter days are short and cold, and the light is good even when it shouldn't be,casting long shadows with feeble rays. The wandering dog is at the mercy of the master, the thickness of his or her jacket and the flurries of snow. No one wants to be outside that long. Even in vandalism, Paris responds with art. Graffiti here is not just the message, but the style in which it is applied. Parisians speak of graffiti with pride, offering up locations, suggestions and styles that have sparked their interest. I know now graffiti is a reflection of society, a near perfect mimic. Graffiti is emotion fueled by confrontation. The dogs, on their breaks from the confines of the small Parisian flats, have other things on their mind. And besides, dogs can't read.
